Defend People's Korea!

by New Worker correspondent

NCP leader Andy Brooks joined other comrades at a protest picket outside the American embassy in London last weekend. Braving the abnormally hot weather to show solidarity with People’s Korea the protesters were marking the 76th anniversary of the Korean war and demanded an end to the American occupation of south Korea.
The demonstration was called by the Korean Friendship Association (KFA), whose chairman, Dermot Hudson said “We are here today picketing the US embassy because a few days ago on Tuesday 25th of June, it was the 76th anniversary of the provocation of the Korean War which is known as the Fatherland Liberation War in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. The was not a war between Koreans but between a small country, the DPR Korea, and the American empire. Indeed it was a war against Korea, against the Korean people.
“Let’s remember that the United States is not some wonderful land of ‘freedom and democracy ‘ but the head of a giant corrupt empire that gave you Jeffrey Epstein and has military bases in every corner of the globe”.
A message of solidarity from KFA Germany was read out by KFA organisation secretary Alan Bolon which stated “The US-imperialists threw 600 000 tons of bombs and napalm on the DPRK. 600 000 tons. Almost four times as much as on Japan during the Pacific war. An unimaginably high number. One ton is 1,000 kilograms. So the US-imperialists threw 600 million kilos of bombs and napalm bombs on Korea. Those bombs did not just hit military targets. These bombs destroyed over 50,000 industrial facilities, over 4,500 school buildings, almost 600 scientific facilities, over 8000 cultural and media facilities and over two million dwelling houses. That´s a two with six zeros.
“But has there been any reparation? Any apology? No, to the contrary! The US imperialists still try to destroy the DPRK. Until this day the ‘United Nations Command’ troops, including soldiers from Germany and the United Kingdom are stationed in south Korea... Until this day the US imperialists threaten the DPRK with aggressive military manoeuvres and try to economically destroy the DPRK with sanctions”.

KFA pickets Foreign Office!

by New Worker correspondent

NCP leader Andy Brooks joined other Korean solidarity campaigners outside the Foreign Office in London last weekend to protest against the unjust sanctions imposed by the British government on the Songdowon International Children's Camp in the DPR Korea. Picketers held placards denouncing the sanctions and demanded that they be rescinded at once in Whitehall on Saturday at the protest called by the Korean Friendship Association (KFA). On the line KFA Chairman  Dermot Hudson stressed that the sanctions against the camp  are totally unfair as it is a children’s camp not a missile base or a nuclear complex. Leaflets denouncing the sanctions were given out while a journalist interviewed Dermot and some of the other protesters.

A glimpse of the future

by John Maryon

Amid the doom and gloom of capitalism's decline the rise of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea can inspire the working class. Dermot Hudson, of the Korean Friendship Association, spoke enthusiastically about his experiences in that socialist country at the latest meeting of the Ipswich New Worker Supporters Group. Members  of a number of left wing parties, religious groups and Palestine supporters joined the event intended to both increase awareness of the  New Worker and to build left unity.
The speaker described how the country is rapidly developing, with building work transforming Pyongyang, as despite harsh sanctions the economy continues to grow. The sanctions were imposed at the behest of the United States to punish Korea for defending itself. There can be no doubt that without its nuclear deterrent People's Korea would have suffered the same fate as Iraq, Syria and Yugoslavia or be exposed to the threats faced today by Iran, Venezuela and Cuba.
The appalling propaganda from the Western media, including decades of lies, misinformation and snide remarks by the ‘British Brainwashing Corporation’ shows their fear and hatred of the DPRK.  Not because of some supposed military action but the fear that a successful non- capitalist state is creating a beautiful and prosperous new form of society.
The meeting also discussed the capitalist crises in Britain and overseas. Of particular concern was the rise of the far right supported by  less well educated groups of former Labour supporters. It was agreed that the next meeting of the Ipswich New Worker Group would be devoted to this issue with the aim of developing an effective strategy for creating a more progressive society. Future topics will also include the international situation and Green issues. The newly established Ipswich New Worker Group continues to develop and gain in strength. It's ultimate goal to put the Red flag over Ipswich!

Kim Jong Il – an outstanding Korean leader!

by New Worker correspondent

NCP leader Andy Brooks joined other Korean solidarity campaigners in south London last weekend to look at the development of the DPR Korea’s nuclear deterrent and  the other outstanding achievements of Kim Jong Il when he was at the helm. Achievements spelt out in a paper sent by the DPRK embassy in London which said that “the US went successively to war with Iraq, Yugoslavia and Afghanistan and went on to place the DPRK on the list of ‘targets of pre-emptive nuclear strike’ and make it a policy to use nuclear weapons and deal a pre-emptive strike to the country, while intensifying military threats to it with huge armed forces. But no war broke out in the Korean peninsula because Chairman Kim Jong Il (1942-2011) frustrated the US' attempts at aggression by strengthening the country's defence capabilities in every way”.
The Korean Friendship Association (KFA) meeting at a community centre just a stone’s throw from Brixton station brought a number of seasoned campaigners together while a hundred more from this country and all over the world watched the proceedings on YouTube.
Dermot Hudson, the KFA chair, opened on the theme of why the DPRK was right to have a nuclear deterrent which was taken up by other speakers which included Andy Brooks and Theo Russell from the NCP as well as Ly Kimlong of the KFA Cambodia, who is currently studying in the United Kingdom.
Dermot said that Kim Jong Il stands in history as a strong figure who faithfully upheld and creatively developed Juche-based socialism – the great idea first pioneered by President Kim Il Sung. Juche is not just an abstract theory; it is a people-centred philosophy that places political independence, economic self-reliance and self-defensive national security at the heart of state-building. Under Kim Jong Il's leadership, Juche was transformed into a powerful guiding force capable of defending socialism in one of the most hostile geopolitical environments in the world.
Closely linked to Juche is the historic role of the Korean People's Army (KPA). The KPA is not merely a military force; it is the pillar of the revolution, a defender of the Korean people and a symbol of national sovereignty. Through decades of confrontation, war threats and military encirclement, the KPA has stood firm ensuring that the DPRK remains unconquered and respected.
The KFA chair also denounced the American and south Korean puppet regime moves to "denuclearise " the DPRK pointing out that “recent developments and ongoing events have proved the DPRK's stance on nuclear weapons to be a 100 per cent and a 1,000 per cent correct”.

Down with the BBC lies!

by New Worker correspondent

London comrades joined other Korean friendship activists outside Broadcasting House on Saturday to protest at the consistent bias of the BBC against the DPR Korea. The picket was called by the Korean Friendship Association whose Chairman, Dermot Hudson said "the BBC consistently demonises and smears the DPRK by using clichés like "impoverished", "totalitarian " and " isolated " . Rather than being impoverished the DPRK has a rapidly growing economy, it is a people-oriented society and rather than being isolated has diplomatic relations with over a 100 countries.
“In fact People's Korea is a country that abolished taxation in 1974 and yet has free education , free health care  and virtually free housing . People's Korea is a society free from knife crime .
“In People's Korea there is no BlackRock or other big monopoly corporations exploiting the people. No Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Richard  Branson or Jeffrey Epstein. They do not exist in People's Korea .No amount of blather about 'dictatorship ' can ever hide or erase this fact".
Recently the popular left wing German newspaper Junge Welt carried an article titled  British Bullshit Club – how the BBC stylises north Korea as a horror setting  by Martin Weiser , a German commentator on People’s Korea. Weiser in his article correctly pointed that BBC reporters who cover the DPRK are actually based in the south Korean capital, Seoul, and have no access to the DPRK.
The BBC dramatically claims they had got “hold  of an iPhone smuggled out of north Korea” when, in fact,  in fact you can just walk into a shop in the DPRK and buy one.
The BBC seemed shocked that if put in the word for “south Korea” into a DPRK phone  , it responds with the word “puppet”.  But that’s what it is South Korea is a puppet regime, 100 per cent and a 1,000 per cent. It is occupied by 30,000 US troops and its economy is dominated  by foreign multi-nationals .
As for the "wealth " and "freedom " in south Korea that the BBC chunter on about, this is an illusion , a mirage . In fact south Korea has extreme inequality and is full of slums and poverty . It has a 21 hour working day . As for the so-called "freedom" , south Korea has the National Security Law which jails people for supporting the DPRK and in the past communists have been executed . Do not forget that puppet ruler Yoon declared martial law in December 2024.
Back in November 2024 the KFA picketed the BBC and handed over a letter to the BBC Director-General and also sent a copy by email . To date the BBC have never replied . The maxim " The Innocent Wish To Speak , the Guilty wish to remain silent " comes to mind .

Korean solidarity in Finland

by New Worker correspondent

Dermot Hudson, the chair of the Korean Friendship Association UK, joined other friends of the DPR Korea for a seminar in Helsinki last week. To mark its 40th anniversary the European Regional Society for the Study of the Juche Idea (ERSSJI) organised the seminar in the  Finnish capital under the title  of “Independence, Peace and Social Development” in the building of the Finland -Russia society. Finland itself was one of the first non-socialist European countries to establish diplomatic relations with People’s Korea in the early 1970s. And Finland has a long tradition of friendship and solidarity with the DPRK as well as of studying the Juche idea and Korean-style socialism.
Presiding over the seminar were Prof Matteo Carbonelli, the director-general of the ERSSJI and Juha Kieski , the secretary-general of the ERSSJI and head of the Finnish Juche Idea Study Group.
A delegation from the DPRK embassy in Sweden took part in the discussion along with a delegation from the International Institute of the Juche Idea based in Japan. KFA Chair Dermot Hudson who also heads the British Group For the Study of the Juche Idea was there along with members of Finnish Juche Idea and DPRK friendship organisations. Participating online were people from Austria, Bulgaria,Denmark , Germany , Russia , Slovakia and the UK.
Dermot Hudson said that “the Juche idea needs to be studied deeply and disseminated more widely in Europe because it is extremely relevant to the needs of the European people and can make a great contribution to independence , peace and social development which are all vitally necessary for the peoples of Europe.
“At the moment Europe lacks independence . Many European countries are members of the US-controlled Nato and have US bases and troops . Many European countries are culturally enslaved by US imperialism for example the TV and cinema is dominated by poor quality American films and the streets are full of Yankee fast food chains . Economically  ,Europe is controlled by supra-national organisations like the European Union , the IMF , the World Bank , the WTO and the World Economic Forum . Many European countries lack economic independence as their economies are dominated by US multi-nationals”.

People’s Korea stands firm!

by New Worker correspondent

The Korean people are marching towards socialism and have achieved great miracles, thereby building a great future for the country and the people. That was the message of Dermot Hudson who joined millions of Koreans celebrating the 80 th anniversary of the foundation of the Workers Party of Korea during his trip to the land of Juche earlier in the month.
“Pyongyang was a blaze of light and colour at night. The imperialists are lying when they say that there is no electricity in the DPRK. Rather than ‘everyone starving’ we saw no homeless or beggars on the streets” the Chair of the UK Korean Friendship Association said. “People get free housing and food only costs 0.3 dollars per month. Just compare that to the UK. No comment”!
And this was echoed by all those who had come to hear Dermot Hudson talk about his recent visit to People’s Korea at the Kings Cross Neighbourhood Centre in London last weekend.
The official delegate of KFA Cambodia, together with NCP leader Andy Brooks and KFA activists from Staffordshire and the West Country, opened the general discussion which looked at the meaning of Korean-style socialism as well as the ‘digital colonialism’ of the imperialists and the brainwashing of the BBC and the rest of imperialist lie machine.
Dermot Hudson will be giving a report back to the new Ipswich New Worker Cell & Supporters group in February and it was decided to hold a picket of the BBC in London next month.

Juche in Wrexham!

by New Worker correspondent

The Korean Friendship Association (KFA) participated in the Wrexham Socialist Bookfair, organised by Red Bookfairs, at the Ty Pawb Centre in Wrexham last weekend.
The KFA stall, run by KFA Chair Dermot Hudson, had on display the works People’s Korea leader Kim Jong Un as well as classics by great leader Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il and as well as literature from the DPRK and the KFA. Discussions were held with visitors to the stall. Leaflets were given out and literature was sold.
The KFA will be back in north Wales and will expand its work in north Wales and other areas of the UK even if some reactionaries do not like it! We will fly the flag of Juche high!

A victory for the Korean people

Dermot Hudson and Andy Brooks in Brixton
by New Worker correspondent

In July 1953 US imperialism signed an armistice ending the Korean war. The war began when the Americans and their lackeys attacked north Korea in June 1950. It ended with the USA beaten to a standstill by the Korean People’s Army and the Chinese volunteers on 27th  July 1953. But though the USA signed the armistice it never honoured the terms of the truce. It still refuses to normalise relations with the people’s government in the north and the Korean peninsula remains divided, with the south still occupied by thousands of US troops. And all of this was commemorated last weekend by Korean Friendship Association (KFA) campaigners in Brixton.
NCP leader Andy Brooks joined other comrades marking the 72nd anniversary of the Korean people in the Korean war at a south London community centre just a stone’s throw from Brixton station. In his opening remarks KFA Chair Dermot Hudson said “in today’s world we are seeing an increase in aggression and intervention by US imperialism and its proxies such as the Zionists so it is important to increase solidarity with People’s Korea, an anti-imperialist socialist country. We are here today to mark two important victories of People’s Korea against imperialism. Tomorrow July 27th is the 72nd anniversary of the victory against the US imperialists in the Fatherland Liberation War and in less than three weeks from now it will be the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Korea from Japanese colonial rule on 15th August. Both victories were the fruit of the Juche idea and are associated with the leadership of President Kim Il Sung. Both are an example of a small country winning victory by its own efforts against overwhelming odds”.
And in his contribution Andy Brooks, the general secretary of the New Communist Party, recalled the great victory of the Korean people in the Fatherland Liberation War pointing out that the south Korean troops in the war were reduced to the role of ancillaries and servants for the Americans and their lackeys flying the false flag of the United Nations to cover their criminal aggression.
The speeches were followed by a Q & A session which sparked off an interesting discussion about the DPR Korea’s policies on Palestine and Israel and questions about building solidarity with People’s Korea across London and throughout the country.

Behind the mirror of lies

by New Worker correspondent

A hotel in the west end of Glasgow was recently the venue for the first Korean Friendship Association event in Glasgow for several years. Hosted by the Stand for Peace pacifist group  who regularly hold vigils in Glasgow and other Scottish cities and towns, it was the occasion for KFA UK’s Chair, Dermot Hudson, to address a packed audience on the theme of People’s Korea behind the Mirror of Lies. The audience, which included members of No to Nato, the NCP and other Scottish communist movements, was broadly sympathetic and genuinely curious about the DPR Korea, although one person seemed to take the Guardian and BBC too seriously.
One of the lies which Dermot Hudson exposed was that the Western media often report that senior DPRK figures had been executed, only to have egg on their face when they reappear in public months later. This was just one small example of the lies constantly pumped out by the puppet regime in south Korea and their imperialist backers. On a lighter note, he caused amusement by citing an American who seriously claimed that while in the DPRK a power failure stopped a train which meant that he and other passengers then had to get out and push.
The reality is that DPRK citizens enjoy free housing, free health care, and free education. On his recent visit he noted a vast amount of construction work in Pyongyang and a vast programme of rural housing and factory building is underway.
After his speech a healthy discussion took place around such matters as landownership as well as all sorts of questions about the political and social structures in People’ Korea. Hudson said the DPRK was an example of the Marxist-Leninist dictatorship of the proletariat. The impact of the recent deepening of relations between Russia and the DPRK was also discussed. To any doubting Thomases in the audience the speaker, while aware of the considerable expense involved, said that a visit would confirm his statements.
It is to be hoped that this resumption of KFA activity north of the border will be followed up by future events.

US out of Korea!

by New Worker correspondent

NCP leader Andy Brooks joined other Korean solidarity activists outside the US embassy in London on Friday 20th June to mark the anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War and call for an end to the American occupation of south Korea.
The Friday evening protest was called by the Korean Friendship Association (KFA) whose chair, Dermot Hudson, said “we are here today in front of the US Embassy , the embassy of the American empire , the empire of evil, because on the 25th June it will be the 75th  anniversary of the provocation of the Korean War by the US imperialists and their puppets .The Korean War never really ended because no peace treaty was ever concluded only an armistice”. Dermot Hudson also said that the US imperialists wanted to invade the DPR Korea not only to destroy the socialist system but  also to seize the valuable rare earth deposits of the DPRK .
A message of support was received from KFA Germany which was read out . In part the message said “ Until this day 30,000 US-soldiers occupy the southern part of the Korean peninsula. Until today the US have nuclear weapons stationed in South Korea and they still continue their aggressive military manoeuvres against the DPRK. That is why it is so important to show solidarity with socialist Korea and openly fight against the US-aggression. Your picket here in front of the US embassy in London today is an important part in the fight against the US imperialist aggression”.

Korea and the Juche Idea

Kim Il Sung with villagers
by Dermot Hudson

The Juche Idea or Juche ideology has been the guiding idea of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) for many decades. But what does it mean?
Well, Juche is a Korean word of two syllables: “Ju” meaning one’s self, and “Che” which means master. In other words, it means “master of one’s self”.
Juche is synonymous with the DPRK. Without understanding the Juche idea, it is impossible to have any understanding of the DPRK. However, much of the media in the West and some so-called academic experts totally ignore the Juche idea in their discourse on the DPRK. Others show a crude and distorted understanding of the Juche idea which is essentially dismissive of it.
Frequently, Juche is described as meaning “self -reliance”. Self-reliance indeed forms a core part of the Juche idea but it has a far wider and deeper meaning.
A typical example of the Western mainstream media dismissal of Juche can be found in Reuters on September 14 2017. The article, written by Jack Kim and Kiyoshi Takenaka and syndicated in other publications, like the Daily Mirror, claimed that “Juche is the North’s ruling ideology that mixes Marxism and an extreme form of go-it-alone nationalism”. This is, of course, a caricature of the Juche idea.
At no point did any of the DPRK’s leaders ever say that the DPRK would or should “go it alone” – although at different moments in its history it has had to “go it alone” in order to survive.
An example of the latter was in 1962 when the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics suspended cooperation with the DPRK and imposed sanctions on it.
Worse are those who claim that Juche is a form of “ethno-nationalism,” or a “state religion” or even a “cult”.
A lot of misinformation about the Juche idea has been spread by American and European academics based in south Korea. Among them are B R Myers and Andrei Lankov, who are held up as “Korea experts” but actually know very little about the DPRK.
Even on the left in Western Europe and North America there exists a lot of ignorance and misunderstanding about the Juche idea.
The Juche idea was the brainchild of the DPRK’s founding father, Kim Il Sung, who led the anti-Japanese national liberation struggle.
The term “Juche” was first used publicly and explicitly in 1955 in a speech Kim Il Sung made to party ideological workers – titled On Eliminating Dogmatism and Formalism and Establishing Juche in Ideological Work. In his speech Kim asked “What is Juche in our Party’s ideological work? What are we doing? We are not engaged in any other country’s revolution, but solely in the Korean revolution. This, the Korean revolution, determines the essence of Juche in the ideological work of our Party. Therefore, all ideological work must be subordinated to the interests of the Korean revolution”.
At the time Kim Il Sung made the speech, there was an urgent need to clear away dogmatic and formalistic attitudes that were hindering the advance of the Korean revolution.
The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea was blazing a new trail in the construction of socialism; ready-made formulas, therefore, did not fit.
Some dogmatists in the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea wanted to do everything according to old Marxist textbooks or to copy the experiences of the USSR.
However, the DPRK’s situation was different from other socialist countries; it was a divided country that had emerged from the ruins of Japanese colonialism and feudalism.
It was really impossible for the DPRK to follow the path of other countries. There was a need for independent and creative thinking and for the DPRK to assert its independence.
The assertion of the DPRK’s independence became more important than before because the Soviet Union, after the death of Stalin in March 1953, became revisionist and  dropped its anti-imperialist stance and, later, the socialist camp and international communist movement was split into pro-Soviet and pro-Chinese wings. President Kim Il Sung pointed out that “in 1955, therefore, our Party set forth the definite policy of establishing Juche, and has been persistently urging an energetic ideological struggle to carry it through ever since. The year 1955 marked a turning point in our Party's consistent struggle against dogmatism. It was also at that time, in fact, that we started our struggle against modern revisionism that had emerged within the socialist camp. Our struggle against dogmatism was thus linked up with the struggle against modern revisionism".
Moreover, establishing Juche was essential as Korea was sandwiched between great powers and menaced by the US imperialists who had occupied southern Korea after 1945. In the past, Korea had lost independence due to the idea of relying on and fawning to big powers (known as flunkeyism in Korea).
The flunkeyist or sycophantic mentality had been deeply ingrained in the old feudal ruling class. In the closing years of the 19th century and the early 20th  century, Korea’s feudal rulers had done virtually nothing to organize the work of defense against the menace of Japan.
The ruling class was split into pro-Russian, pro-Chinese, pro-American and pro-Japanese factions. Different big powers—such as Japan, the USA, China, Russia, Britain and France –aall coveted Korea; in the end, however, Korea was occupied and annexed by Japan.
The nationalist movement in Korea was also captivated by flunkeyism, the mentality of relying on big powers. Some wanted to rely on the Americans, believing in Woodrow Wilson’s doctrine of “self-determination” while others looked to Nationalist China or to the Soviet Union. Some even believed that the colonial suzerain Japan would grant independence to Korea if they begged hard enough.
Although Juche was first explicitly mentioned in 1955, in fact, it goes back much further. It was actually first outlined in an embryonic form by Kim Il Sung when he addressed a meeting of the leading activists and cadres of the Young Communist League of Korea and the Anti-Imperialist Youth League at Kalun, China, in June 1930 (many Koreans had been exiled to China in those days and many Korean independence activists were based in China). At the time, the Korean people were looking for a new way to successfully conduct the revolutionary struggle for independence and national liberation as well as for social justice.
The young Kim Il Sung keenly realised that a new path for the Korean revolution needed to be charted. He stressed that the Korean revolution should be carried out independently and by relying on the ordinary people, the popular masses.
In his speech, titled The Path of the Korean Revolution, he explained his ideas and put forward an independent line for the Korean revolution. He castigated those who believed in relying on big powers or splitting into many different factions:
“Experience shows that in order to lead the revolution to victory, one must go among the masses of people and organise them, and solve all problems arising in the course of the revolution independently on one’s own responsibility in accord with the actual conditions, instead of relying on others.
“Drawing on this lesson we regard it as most important to take the firm standpoint that the masters of the Korean revolution are the Korean people and that the Korean revolution should by all means be carried out by the Korean people themselves in a way suited to the actual conditions of their country”.
This is the basis of the Juche idea and its starting point. The idea that the masses are the masters of the revolution was first voiced at Kalun in 1930. Comrade Kim Il Sung also stressed that “The masters of the revolutionary struggle are the masses of the people, and only when they are organised and mobilised can they win the revolutionary struggle”.
Many years later, on September 171972, President Kim Il Sung explained to journalists of the Mainichi Shimbun, one of Japan’s major daily newspapers, that “in a nutshell, the idea of Juche means that the masters of the revolution and the work of construction are the masses of the people and that they are also the motive force of the revolution and the work of construction. In other words, one is responsible for one’s own destiny and one also has the capacity for hewing out one’s own destiny”.
Kim Il Sung also said that “independence is what keeps man alive. If he loses independence he cannot be called a man; he differs little from an animal”. This is a succinct elucidation of the humanistic and liberating nature of the Juche idea.
In March 1982, comrade  Kim Jong Il, who was at the time Secretary for Organisational Affairs of the Workers’ Party of Korea, published the treatise On the Juche Idea, which explained and expounded the Juche idea in depth and in a systematic and structured form.
Comrade Kim Jong Il defined the Juche idea as having philosophical principles, socio-historical principles and guiding principles. The core principle of the Juche idea is that humans are the masters of everything and decide everything. In the work Kim Jong Il explained that man is a social being with the attributes of independence, creativity and consciousness, all of which were interrelated. The guiding principles of the Juche idea, which are applied concretely in practice, were: Juche in ideology, independence in politics, self-sufficiency in the economy, and self-reliance in national defence.
The Juche idea postulates that the masses are the subject of the revolution, not its object. Accordingly, in order to carry out the revolution, the masses should be awakened and should play the role of the masters of the revolution; therefore, priority should be given to ideological work. This is one of the main reasons why the DPRK did not collapse like the people’s democracies of Eastern Europe and the USSR.
Some self-styled “Leftist” detractors of the Juche idea, who reject the socialist experience of the DPRK, claim that “Juche rejects Marxism-Leninism.” This, however, is not true. In fact, Marxism-Leninism is an important component of Juche.
In his youth Kim Il Sung studied the works of Marx and Lenin, including Capital and The State and Revolution. Kim Jong Il himself pointed out that “our Party and people respect Marx, Engels, Lenin and Stalin as the leaders of the working class and speak highly of their distinguished service”. Moreover, the DPRK is one of the few countries in the world where you can take a university course in Marxism-Leninism and dialectical materialism. So it is a false statement that Marxism-Leninism has been rejected by the DPRK.
Nor is Juche simply narrow nationalism or a cover for nationalism. Kim Jong Il said in his work On the Juche Idea that “independence is not in conflict with internationalism but is the basis of its strengthening. Just as the world revolution is inconceivable without the revolution in one’s own country, internationalism divorced from independence cannot exist. As a matter of principle, internationalist solidarity must be based on freedom of choice and equality. Only when it is founded on independence will internationalist solidarity become based on free choice and equality and become genuine and durable”.
Guided by the Juche idea, the DPRK has always been internationalist. It has materially supported revolutionary and anti-imperialist struggles in many countries. A recent example is the assistance given to the Russian Federation in its defensive actions in the Kursk region . In the 1960s President Kim Il Sung sent pilots of the air force of the Korean People’s Army as well as artillery troops and tunnelling experts to assist the Vietnamese people in their liberation war against US imperialism. The KPA Air Force also assisted Egypt and Syria in the 1973 Middle East October war against the Zionist aggressors. In 1962 when Cuba was stabbed in the back by the Soviet Union DPRK under the leadership of the great leader President Kim Il Sung provided internationalist support for Cuba during its hour of need, gave political and military assistance, while sending food and tractors and technicians. The DPRK also publicly supported the five-point demands of Fidel Castro which included the US withdrawal from Guantanamo Bay. Another example of DPRK internationalism is that President Kim Il Sung had  construction experts sent to Grenada and the DPRK gave a generous amount of military aid to the People's Revolutionary Government of Grenada , in fact in per capita terms  the DPRK gave more aid to Grenada than the USSR did.
The Juche idea is the secret weapon of the DPRK which has enabled it to not only survive in difficult circumstances but to thrive and prosper. Thanks to the application of the Juche idea the DPRK was able to maintain independence.
Indeed, former British Prime Minister John Major paid an unusual backhanded compliment to the DPRK when he said it was a “country with undiluted independence”.
The DPRK does not have foreign troops stationed on its soil. It is not a member of the IMF, World Bank, World Trade Organisation (WTO), World Economic Forum (WEF) or Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).
It has been able to build an independent national economy and industrialise despite being under blockade and sanctions by the USA since almost day one, as well as increasingly by the United Nations Security Council since 2006.
The Soviet big-power chauvinists and modern revisionists tried to subordinate the DPRK economy to their own  but Kim Il Sung was having none of it and adhered to the line of economic independence. The USSR tried to induce the DPRK to join the Soviet-led Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (CMEA also known as Comecon in the West) by offering electricity from the Lake Baikal power station. But Kim Il Sung told them “we will not use electricity generated by the power station; if we become dependent on electricity from you and then you fail to supply it, then we would suffer greatly; if we have funds for transmission cables from the power station to our country, it would be more effective for us to use these funds to build another hydroelectric power station in our country. It has become more clear today that our decision to build socialism by our own efforts on the principle of self-reliance and not enter the CMEA was quite correct".
The DPRK put self-reliance into effect in many fields. It achieved self-sufficiency in grain in the early 1960s. The DPRK produced its own "Juche Fibre ", Vinalonm, which was invented by a south Korean scientist Dr Ri Sung Gi, who defected to the north during the Korean War. Vinalon is fibre produced from the anthracite and limestone abundant in the DPRK.In his lifetime, Ri used to say “if the coming generations ask about the history of vinalon, please tell them about the history of the Workers’ Party of Korea founded and led by great leader Kim Il Sung, not about the name of a scientist or a technician. Then they will come to know how vinalon could be born in this era”.
The DPRK also found ways of producing iron without coking coal. During the period of socialist industrialisation , industrial output value grew by an astonishing 19.1  per cent per annum. Under the leadership of the great leader President Kim Il Sung, the Korean people built a powerful independent national economy that can turn out all sorts of products from wrist watches to large railway locomotives.
The DPRK has been able to manage with its borders closed between January 2020 and February 2024 during the Covid pandemic when others would be lucky to last beyond a couple of days. At the same time and despite the sanctions, the DPRK has been able to maintain an impressive social programme, with free medical care, free education up to university level, free housing, low-cost public transport and other measures but without levying tax on citizens as this was abolished in 1974.
In the past few years, a massive housing construction program has been carried out not just in Pyongyang but in rural areas.
Thus, the Juche idea has produced tangible results in the DPRK. There is no doubt that the DPRK’s socialism is the most durable socialism.
Therefore, it is not surprising that, since the 1960s, groups for the Study of the Juche Idea have appeared in many countries. The first one was founded in Mali in 1969; in 1978, the International Institute of the Juche Idea was established, with headquarters in Tokyo, Japan.
As Dr Vishwanath, director of the International Institute of the Juche idea, once said, “Study the Juche idea; it will cost you nothing but pay in plenty”.

Juche lights the way!

Dermot Hudson and Andy Brooks
by New Worker correspondent

Andy Brooks joined other Korean solidarity campaigners in central London last weekend to mark the 113th  anniversary of the birth of the great Korean leader, Kim Il Sung and celebrate the triumph of the Korean revolution. At the Chadswell Centre the NCP leader joined Dermot Hudson and a university lecturer to open a discussion on the Juche Idea and Korean-style socialism.
Dermot Hudson, the Chair of the Korean Friendship Association that called the meeting, said "in today 's troubled world , one country stands out as a beacon , a true fortress of socialism and independence; the Democratic People's Republic of Korea or People's Korea”. Andy Brooks recalled the great achievements of President Kim Il Sung and his wisdom. He also said it was wrong to equate Juche with nationalism. He pointed out that it is a falsehood to say Juche is fascism, as some do in the bourgeois media. If this was true then the ruling class would adopt Juche instead of denouncing and demonising it. Finally a senior university lecturer from a British university gave a presentation on the theme of Independence, Creativity, Mastery: Juche as Ideology and Theory in Education.
There followed lively discussion on the three presentations. Questions included the issue of DPRK-US relations, visiting the DPRK and the current situation. The need to attract students to the KFA and Juche was stressed as well as working towards more public Korean friendship meetings in London and throughout the country.

Korea on the Mersey!

by New Worker correspondent

Korean solidarity campaigners returned to the Casa Bar in the heart of Liverpool’s university district last week to hear a report from Dermot Hudson about what he saw in the DPR Korea when he was there in April.
Peter Hendy from the Liverpool NCP introduced the meeting saying that “imperialist aggression towards the DPRK continues to intensify with an escalation of lies and threats, A new propaganda offensive has been unleashed to justify US military aggression...for over six decades The DPRK has been subjected To US military intimidation, provocations, threats and extensive sanctions to politically isolate and destroy the DPRK economy. The US war-mongers want to destroy the DPRK”.
Dermot Hudson then demolished false reports about the DPRK and Ukraine saying that “It is also necessary to comment on the wild stories being floated in the mainstream media about the troops of the Korean People’s Army being in Ukraine. Neither Russia nor the DPRK have officially confirmed the despatch of KPA soldiers to Ukraine. Indeed DPRK vice-foreign minister Kim Jong Gyu on the 25th October described it as a “rumour”.
He also denounced the visit of the new British Foreign Secretary Lammy to south Korea and the hostile policy of the British government towards People’s Korea. Dermot Hudson explained that the British authorities are joining hands with the US imperialists and south Korean puppets to overthrow the socialist system of the DPRK and also detailed the threats to the DPRK from US imperialism and the ROK puppet regime.
As to tales of " human rights violations " , the DPRK actually has a fairly minimal police presence compared to many other countries . The police only direct traffic. The situation seemed quite normal. That is the reality of People’s Korea , an advanced socialist society with free housing, free health care and free education. We must redouble our efforts to defend People’s Korea with No Ifs or Buts!”

Defend People’s Korea!

by New Worker correspondent

NCP leader Andy Brooks joined protesters outside the BBC HQ in London on Tuesday calling for an end to the demonising of the DPR Korea by the state-owned broadcasting service. A letter of protest from the Korean Friendship Association to the Director-General and Management board of the BBC was handed to a member of the BBC staff.
Dermot Hudson, the Chair of KFA, said “we are here today to protest against the BBC’s persistent demonisation of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) or People’s Korea. No country -apart from maybe Russia and the former Soviet Union – has been lied about more by the BBC than the DPRK. Recently, the BBC or British Brainwashing Corporation has tried to blame the DPRK over the conflict in Ukraine making false allegations and quoted unconfirmed rumours and misleading reports.
“The BBC is an official state broadcaster. It is not independent but run by the British government. It is closely linked to British imperialism and US imperialism…
“The BBC promotes the ideology of market totalitarianism and liberal fascism. The BBC is a tool of the ruling elite and the big monopoly corporations. What is disgusting is that not only does the BBC lie about People’s Korea but it expects us to pay for its lies in the form of the BBC licence fee which is £169 per year”.

Korean solidarity in Bulgaria

by New Worker correspondent

Dermot Hudson, the chair of the UK Korean Friendship Association attended the European Regional Seminar on the Juche Idea on the theme of “Sovereignty, Independence and New International Relations” that was held on the 8th September at the Moskva Park hotel in Sofia, the capital of the former People’s Republic of Bulgaria.
Bulgaria of course was once a socialist country but sadly most traces of socialism have been eliminated by the new regime. The effects of the restoration of capitalism, such as people begging and closed down shops could be seen. Whilst the Metro is very cheap and surprisingly taxi fares as well, some of the prices in the shops looked not that different to the UK.
It had been originally intended to hold the seminar the Finnish capital of Helsinki but the reactionary Finnish authorities (these days puppets of US and world imperialism) refused to allow the entry of a delegation from the Korean Association of Social Scientists. The seminar was moved to Sofia which had previously hosted a similar event in 2019.
The seminar was organised by the European Regional Society for the Study of the Juche Idea and hosted by the Bulgarian Group for the Study of Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism.
The seminar was presided by Prof Matteo Carbonelli secretary general of the European Regional Society for the Study of the Juche Idea (ERSSJI)  who welcomed the participants.
The seminar heard a detailed report of work of the ERSSJI by secretary general Matteo Carbonelli. There was discussion on improving the work of disseminating the Juche idea with suggestions about using simple short videos and graphic propaganda as well using Telegram.
Later the seminar was addressed by Pak Chol Jun, the vice-president of the Korean Association of Social Scientists, who expressed his conviction that the seminar would contribute to the cause of strengthening the struggle for a new independent world. Many delegates from Europe and across the rest of the globe spoke during the conference which also heard online contributions from Ogami Kenichi , the secretary general of the Institute for the Study of the Juche Idea in Japan, noted Russian academic specialist Prof Alexander Voronstov and Keith Bennett, the vice-director general of the ERSSJI.

US out of Korea!

By New Worker correspondent

Korean solidarity activists were outside the US embassy in London on Saturday to demand an end to the American occupation of south Korea. London comrades, including NCP leader Andy Brooks, joined in the protest called by the Korean Friendship Association (KFA) in solidarity with the DPR Korea and all the Korean people campaigning to end the imperialist partition of their country.
US imperialism and its south Korean lackeys attempted to invade Democratic Korea on 25th June 1950. Millions died in the war that ended with an armistice in 1953. But Korea remains partitioned with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) ringed by the nuclear arsenals of US imperialism and facing tens of thousands of American troops based in the south of the divided peninsula.
Every year the anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War is marked by the start of the month of solidarity with the Korean people. In Britain, and throughout the rest of the world, Korean solidarity campaigners meet to demand an end to the American occupation of south Korea and the reunification of the country that has been divided since the end of the Korean War.
“We are here today picketing the US embassy because a few days ago, on Tuesday 25th June, it was the 74th anniversary of the provocation of the Korean War which is known as the Fatherland Liberation War in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea,” said Dermot Hudson, the Chairman of the KFA.
“The war was not a war between Koreans but between a small country, the DPRK, and the American empire. Indeed it was a war against Korea, against the Korean people.
“The US imperialists, the ringleader of world imperialism and international reactionaries, provoked a war in Korea on the 25th June 1950 by instigating their south Korean puppets to attack the young DPR Korea. The US imperialists were hungry for profits and conquest. The US imperialists fought an unjust, aggressive war against the Korean people. The US imperialists launched a war of conquest against the DPRK , a war to destroy the Juche-based people's democratic system in the DPRK as well as to destroy socialism in Asia and the world.
“We are here to defend the right of the DPRK to exist, to defend its independence, it is time to take a real stand and defend People's Korea from the threat of US aggression. The US is quite openly threatening the DPRK with annihilation, with being "eliminated" from the face of the globe.
“All the time, the US, even as we stand here, the US imperialists are planning regime change in People’s Korea and to overthrow the socialist system”.

Korean solidarity in Berlin

by New Worker correspondent

British members of the Korean Friendship Association (KFA) joined German solidarity workers to discuss the life-time achievements of Democratic Korean leader Kim Jong Il, in Berlin last week. Korean solidarity activists from Germany and the rest of Europe met at the Kom Treff Centre in Berlin last week for a hybrid seminar held under the auspices of the European Regional Committee For Friendship with the Korean People and the Korean Friendship Association of Germany.
The meeting was presided over by KFA UK Chairman, Dermot Hudson, and Jeremy Bierenger Chairman of KFA Germany. Dermot Hudson introduced the meeting stressing that the recent visit of Russian president, Vladimir Putin, to the DPR Korea proves that Democratic Korea is at the centre of world politics.
A recorded version of the keynote address of Christer Lundgren, the chairman of the Sweden-Korea Friendship Association was played at the meeting. He said, in part, that the “ideological and organizational work during Kim Jong Il’s first years in the Central Committee explains why the party, despite great difficulties, has stuck to its ideology and its revolutionary position and maintained its firm base among the working class and the people”.
Dermot Hudson said that “today the Workers’ Party of Korea shines as a Party of Juche , a party of independence and militant anti-imperialism with its own guiding idea, the Juche idea and a party which is not just a mass party in terms of numbers but has members from all walks of life. Today under the guidance of respected Marshal Kim Jong Un, the successor to comrade Kim Jong Il, the Workers Party of Korea continues the work of the great leader comrade Kim Jong Il”.
Jeremy Biergener, the Chairman of KFA Germany said in his contribution that “today, Marshal Kim Jong Un is continuing the policy of Comrade Kim Jong Il. Foreigners who visited Pyongyang recently noted that the city has changed a lot. Under the leadership of Marshal Kim Jong Un, new roads the size of small towns have been built, as well as new subways and buses for the convenience of the people of Pyongyang. A new greenhouse was also built in which 1.800 people work and which supplies the population of the socialist capital with high-quality vegetables free of charge”
Sara Russo, Organisation Secretary of KFA Germany pointed out that “I speak for everyone here that we all appreciate his ambition and his hard work in the WPK to proceed to build the WPK as the party of Juche”.
The speech of the Chairman of the Denmark -DPRK Association was read out by Mathias Fantoni who said that “Comrade Kim Jong Il was a pioneer in many ways. He began working tirelessly in the WPK at the very young age of 22. Beforehand, he had excelled in the party and the youth league, as a strong revolutionary with great insight in theory and practical knowledge”.
Alejandro Cao De Benos, who joined the meeting online from Spain, said that the visit of Russian President Putin to the DPRK was highly significant and said “let us honour our Great Leader Kim Jong Il by reaffirming our commitment to the principles he championed. Let us continue to build a strong, prosperous, and independent Korea, guided by the
Juche ideology and inspired by his enduring legacy. As we look to the future, we draw strength from his example, knowing that the path he laid out will lead us to greater heights.
His spirit lives on in our hearts and our actions, propelling us forward in our pursuit of a brighter, more prosperous future.”

Eyewitness Korea

Alan Bolon and Dermot Hudson
by New Worker correspondent

The DPR Korea is marching along the road to socialism. That was the message of Dermot Hudson who has recently returned from a visit to north Korea and that was the main theme of his talk at a Korean Friendship Association (KFA) meeting in the central London last weekend.
Andy Brooks and Michael Chant, the leaders of the NCP and the RCPB (ML), were in the audience that included other KFA members in London and a guest from KFA Poland. The meeting was also livestreamed on the internet which attracted participation throughout the world.
Dermot Hudson said that the people’s government is carrying out massive construction work in the capital, Pyongyang and that he saw the newly built Hwasong Street neighbourhood that is about the same size as a London borough or a small city. He said that the DPR Korea is carrying out massive housing construction not under ideal conditions but under the pressure of sanctions and military threats. But there are no homeless or beggars in the DPRK – unlike other Asian countries under the thumb of imperialism.
Dermot also spoke about his recent trip to Germany at the invitation of KFA Germany – taking part in a May Day march in Kassel, visiting the DPRK embassy in Berlin as well as the Volkskammer restaurant and the Ernst Thalmann Memorial Centre in Hamburg that reflects on Germany's communist history.
The meeting also heard Alan Bolon from the West of England branch of the KFA give a talk on the Juche Idea using a flip chart with diagrams to illustrate different aspects of the ideology that is the foundation of Korean-style socialism.

Return to the Land of Juche Korea!

Dermot Hudson with the head of KASS

By Dermot Hudson

I visited the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK ) from the 11th to the 18th April. I was the first British citizen to visit the DPRK for five years .The last time I was in the DPRK was in October 2019. For several years it was not possible to travel to the DPRK because the border was closed at the end of January 2020 as a countermeasure against Covid 19 . Only recently has the DPRK started allowing groups of visitors into the country. Some anti-Covid 19 measures were apparent when we arrived such as staff spraying sanitiser onto our hands when we arrived in the hotel.
I travelled to People’s Korea  to join in the celebrations of the 112th  anniversary of the birth of President Kim Il Sung and take part in the international seminar on the Juche Idea  on the theme of  Independence, Justice and The Future of Humanity organised by the Korean Association of Social Scientists (KASS) and the International Institute of the Juche Idea. The seminar attracted delegations from more than 20 countries including Brazil, Britain, Germany and Russia. Some countries like Russia and Brazil sent more than one delegation. The fact that so many delegations travelled to Pyongyang  proved that it is a lie that the DPRK is isolated or that there is no support for the DPRK outside the country. Indeed the Juche Idea is attracting interest from around the world .
Arriving at the Air Koryo, the DPRK’s national airline, check in counter at Beijing Airport on the morning of the 11th April I ran into many veteran supporters of People’s Korea such as Martin Lotscher of KFA Switzerland and Javed Ansari from Pakistan as well as newer friends of People’s Korea such as Lucas Rubio of Brazil.
In the course of our stay in the DPRK we visited the Mangyongdae School-children's Palace , the Kangdong Greenhouse Vegetable Farm , the Natural History Museum at Pyongyang Central Zoo, the Tower of the Juche Idea , the National Gift Exhibition House, the Monument on Mansu Hill as well as the national art gallery, a circus and the stamp museum. We went to a concert at the Moranbong Theatre as well as participating in an international friendship gathering . Some of the delegates attended an excellent dinner hosted by the DPRK Committee For Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries.
I arrived at Pyongyang Sunan International Airport on the afternoon of the 11th April and was met by my guide O Su Jin of the Korean Association of Social Scientists . We travelled by coach to the Pyongyang Koryo Hotel .  Sometimes it seemed hard to believe that I was really back in the DPRK , it seemed like everything was in a dream. Everywhere we went we encountered friendly people . People on the streets waved at our convoy and the hotel staff were very friendly.
During the visit I witnessed that the situation in the DPRK is calm and stable .The DPRK had closed its borders for four years but survived ,a truly amazing feat when you consider that some countries would only last weeks or even days with their borders closed . However the DPRK is based firmly on self-reliance and the independent national economy .

Koryo Hotel
Despite the sanctions imposed by the US and its lackeys on the UN Security Council and the Covid pandemic the DPRK is carrying out massive construction work,  Chollima was a flying horse of legend in Korea and gave its name to the mass movement for increased productivity in the DPRK in the late 1950s. Now the DPRK it is going through another great Chollima upsurge.
A new neighbourhood called Hwasong Street has appeared in Pyongyang. On the day of our arrival our coach to the hotel passed through it and later in the visit we drove through Hwasong Street both during the day and at night . Hwasong Street looks very modern and of good quality .It would cost billions to build in a Western country but the DPRK gives homes to people free of charge . Whilst we were staying in the DPRK the second stage of Hwasong Street  was opened on the evening of the 16th April in the presence of Kim Jong Un, the supreme leader of the DPRK. Also a new street is under construction in the Sopho district and was visible when we were going back to Pyongyang Airport on the 18th  April .
In fact, construction was going on all over Pyongyang . Opposite the Pyongyang Koryo Hotel there was a new block of flats under construction and several other blocks of flats under construction were visible in the near distance as well as in other parts of Pyongyang . I think that I can truly say  that although it was my 19th visit to the DPRK I had  never previously seen construction work on such a scale before. What is significant is that all this is being achieved without the so-called “aid” of imperialism or the south Korean puppets.
During the emergency situation that arose in the spring of 2022 when the south Korean puppets deliberately spread Covid 19 into the DPRK , the DPRK rejected “aid” from the south Korean puppet regime , the UN and the Americans. The Daily Worker, the newspaper of the Workers Party of Korea, later described the “aid” of imperialism as “poisoned candy”. The rapid development of People’s Korea by relying on its own resources and labour is destroying the myth that outside assistance, particularly from the Americans and other imperialists, is somehow essential for a country‘s development .
We visited the newly built Kangdong Greenhouse Vegetable Farm which was some 34 kilometres outside Pyongyang. It  had only gone into operation in March this year .It was opened on the 15th of March in the presence of the Korean leader Kim Jong Un. The farm had been built on the site of the former Mirim Airbase of the Korean People’s Army. One myth about People’s Korea created by the bourgeois media in the imperialist world is that resources are diverted away from civilians to the military but the construction of the Kangdong Greenhouse Vegetable Farm shows that in fact this is simply not true. The farm has an area of 100 square hectares with 8 types of greenhouses.
The farm has 1,800 workers. We were able to taste cucumbers produced by the farm . Significantly the Kangdong Greenhouse Vegetable Farm is not a co-operative farm but actually a state farm which means that it is owned by the whole people. The aim is to create a similar farm in each county or province of the DPRK. Vegetables from the farm were supplied free of charge to Pyongyang citizens. Also dwellings for the workers of the farm were given free of charge to the farm’s workers . It can be truly said that the DPRK is actually advancing towards the higher stage of socialism, communism . Probably the DPRK will be the first socialist country to reach the higher stage of communism.
In recent years a false narrative about the DPRK has been created by some sections of the mainstream media and by so-called “academic experts” on the DPRK who in reality know nothing at all about the DPRK. They say that the DPRK is adopting “market reforms” and abandoning Juche-based socialism – lies aimed at spreading disillusion and confusion amongst international supporters of People’s Korea .The fact that the DPRK is developing a network of state owned farms to supply vegetables to the population shows that the DPRK is actually strengthening the planned economy and system of state ownership.
Although there have been massive changes in the DPRK since the last time I visited, what remained unchanged was the DPRK ‘s consistent anti-imperialism and adherence to socialist principles. Red flags were flying on street corners and there were many revolutionary slogans in large Korean characters displayed across the capital. Postcards of anti-US posters could be found in the bookshop of the Pyongyang Koryo Hotel and the Korean Stamp Museum. A friend of mine who had been with me in the DPRK in 2017 and 2018 remarked that he had been worried about what he might find in the DPRK after an absence of six years but was quite relieved as well as positive when he saw that there had been no “reform” and “opening up” in the DPRK and there was a complete absence of Western influence .
Prices in the hotel shop were the same as in 2019.Needless to say there was no evidence to back the ludicrous claim on the rabidly anti-communist NK News  website about a “250 dollar banana" and my guide just laughed and said " ridiculous" when I told him the story .There were no homeless people and I saw no one begging. Housing is given to people free of charge. My guide told me that he had lived in Mirae Scientists Street with his parents but when he got married  he was given a new flat. The neighbourhoods were spotlessly clean with no litter. Unlike Western capitals there were no muggers, drug addicts, beggars, prostitutes on the streets. I was able to leave money in my hotel room and it was still there when I returned in the evening or afternoon.
As to tales of “human rights violations”, the DPRK actually has a fairly minimal police presence compared to many other countries. The police only direct traffic. The situation seemed quite normal, calm and peaceful.
I was able to make a speech at the seminar on the Juche Idea on the theme of “Independence , Justice and the future of Humanity “ ,which was held on the 15th of April .There were 10 speakers including DPRK social scientists as well as speakers from Russia , Mongolia,  Democratic Congo and the International Institute of the Juche Idea . In my speech I pointed out that “People’s Korea under the leadership of the  respected leader Marshal Kim Jong Un represents the future of humanity .Rapid advances such as the construction of new housing as well as the launch of the DPRK’s first ever military reconnaissance satellite are taking place one after the other . People’s Korea is a country without unemployment , without beggars and without drug addicts . It is a society free from the decadence of modern capitalism which is rotten to the core ”.
A follow up course was held on the 16th of April with lecturers from the Korean Association of Social Scientists. I was sad to leave the DPRK on the 18th of April but very glad that I went.
My thanks to the Korean Association of Social Scientists for the invitation and for their work in organising the visit, to my guide  O Su Jin, to the staff of the Pyongyang Koryo Hotel and to the DPRK Committee for Cultural Relations for the excellent dinner.
See you again Pyongyang!
