NCP leader Andy Brooks joined other Korean solidarity campaigners to celebrate a hundred years of struggle by the Korean people in the battle to defeat Japanese colonialism and American imperialism at a community centre last weekend. In 1945 that struggle ended with the establishment of the people’s government in the north of the country that is now the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). And this was the theme of the Korean Friendship Association (KFA) meeting at the Vida Walsh centre just a stone’s throw from Brixton station in south London.
KFA Chair Dermot Hudson welcomed supporters old and new to the event marking the 81st anniversary of the foundation of the Workers Party of Korea and the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Down With Imperialism Union by Korea’s great revolutionary leader Kim Il Sung. “All the achievements of People’s Korea, which I have witnessed through my 20 visits, are the result of the leadership and guidance of the Workers Party of Korea, which is transforming people’s dreams into reality..new homes are given to people free of charge...there are no beggars, homeless people, alcoholics or drug addicts...there was a complete absence of graffiti and vandalism”.
Other speakers included Sean Pickford from the Staffordshire KFA and Andy Brooks from the NCP. But the highlight of the meeting was the on the spot contribution by diplomats from the DPRK embassy in London. Ryu Kyong Jun said that the Korean people know that the immense achievements of the past five years are the result of the leadership of the Workers Party of Korea. The standard of living of the masses continues to rise. The target of building 50,000 flats in Pyongyang have been over fulfilled. Only victories and miracles are in store when the people follow the guidance of the Party Ryu said to the roar of approval from the audience!
